The Final

I am working on my magazine on Joomag. It has a cover, a two page spread contents, and a two page spread for my article. I am finishing up my pictures this morning for my cover and one or tow for my contents. Later today I am making the chili to take a picture of it to use on my two page spread. Below are pictures that I am using. I am trying to take new running pictures to make it a three picture panel of continuous motion. This model is Caitlin for all three pictures.

Say Cheese!

Today I took all my pictures that I needed from Caitlin. The pictures with her eating a lot of food came out perfect. We had marshmellows. We had ice cream. Pretzals. Cookie Butter. Cookies. We had every single sugary food in her house sitting on her bed. This picture goes with Sugar Crave Gone Wrong. We also took pictures for Build Muscle in 3..2..1. For Runner's World, I took sport mode pictures of Caitlin running. I am planning on putting them in one panel. I have already started to edit some pictures I previously took. The other pictures I need are the ones for 7 Places to Buy Affordable Shoes and Your Partner is Your Fitness Partner.
I have already written my article and I think it came out great. There's just one problem: I feel it's not professional. It starts out professional with a statics and then ends with "yeah the diet works but the one thing I learned is that everybody type is beautiful." So, I need to work on that.

Thoughts Before the Editing Begins

This is week four of the project. For four weeks I have been putting thoughts and ideas about my project down on this blog. This post is going what I'm doing; not 100% but more like 95%. I hope by doing this it will be easy for the nest couple of weeks for me to just edit and of course put together a magazine.
On the cover, the masthead will say strong in low case letters. The color of the masthead will either be a bright red or black. Red represents action, energy and speed, attention-getting, assertive and confident, energizing, stimulating, exciting, powerful, passionate, stimulating and driven, courageous and strong, spontaneous and determined. While black represents protection and comfort, strong, contained, formal, sophisticated, seductive, and mysterious. Both are colors that define the word strong. I'm not using a sell line nor a date line. I read Health, Women's Health, Fitness, and Self on the daily and only Health has a sell line. Out of the four zero have a date line except on the side of the magazine. The main cover line is Fit, Firm, & Fierce Fit, Firm, & Fierce is steps you feel while on the 'diet.' The diet for some reason makes working out easier (fit) and as you continue this change in lifestyle, your body becomes more toned (firm) and as a result you become confident (fierce). The caption for my main cover line will be love the new you. Other cover lines will include Get Bikini Body Ready (great workouts, great recipes-in weeks), 33 Ways to Eat Cleaner, Your Man Can Be Your Workout Partner, 20 Summer Necessities, Perfect Skin Can Be Yours (super new and easy tricks that are zero effort), (shed pounds and get toned all over). I'm going to use captions for some of the cover lines; in parentheses.
The table of contents will be spread across two pages. The first page will have one big picture as its back ground. This page will have the cover lines and features. Page two of the table of contents will have mulitple pictures on it. This page will have main articles from each subcategory. The subcategories will be Beauty Buzz, Fit Tricks, Eat, Fashion Statement, Love, and of course Every Issue. Under Beauty Buzz, articles will include Natural Beauty, Beauty Benefits of Honey( a sweet treat for your skin and hair), 9 DIY Recipes(teeth whitening, blackhead removal, etc.),12 Products That Are Pure Genius ( 12 products that gets the job done).Under Fit Tricks, articles will include Kick Your Butt (try this full body at home kickboxing workout), Torch Belly Fat On Your Next Run, Build Muscle in 3..2..1, Beat Back Fat (exercises both at home and at the gym). Under Eat, articles will include 30 Foods That Taste Better Frozen, Sugar Crave Gone Wrong (Tips on Quitting Sugar), Sure Mix-Alot (best and worst foods to juice), Mix and Match Healthy Ingredients (step up your food game). Under Fashion Statement, 8 Style Mistakes When Working Out, DIY Workout Shirt (Turn an Old Gym Top into a Trendy New One), 7 Places to Buy Affordable Shoes(Perfect Shoes for the Perfect Workout). Under Love, articles will include 7 Must Fitness Dates(Active Date Ideas), What He Says vs. What He Thinks, 4 Ways Your Relationship Effects Your Eating Habits (does your mood effect what you eat and how much of it?). Under Every Issue, sections will include Inspiration For A Fit Nation, This vs. That, They Did It!, Editors Note, and Contributors.
The two page spread for my article will include the article, pictures, tips and a recipe. I will have a side bar with some tips. I will also put a recipe for Turkey Chili. The pictures used in this two page spread will be pictures of Hannah at her house.

Picture

Next week, I am taking all the pictures for my magazine. In this post I am going to explain the picture I want to take, how I'm going to take it and who's going to be in the picture.

Cover photo:
For my cover story, I am using my friend, Hannah, as the writer and experimenter. Therefore, I am going to use her as my cover photo focus. I think the picture will be taken at the beach. She will be wearing a bathing suit.

These photos will be of Hannah working out, preparing a meal, and sitting talking. The workouts will be outside in a field, the meal will be chili and her sitting. There will additionally be the photos of the chili.

Table of Contents photos:

title. TITLE! Title?

Titles. EVERYTHING has titles, whether it be book titles, movie titles, music titles, etc. But today I am brainstorming ideas for all the titles I am going to be using in my magazine. I am going to chose the name, the colors the titles will be, the placement of the title, and if a catagory-under which catagory.
Strong
Strong is going to be my magazines name. The masthead will be red. Red signifies action, energy, speed, confidence, powerful, driven, STRONG, determined which are all words I want to embellish in my magazine. I still haven't decided if I want my magazine to be first edition or not. I most likely will chose an edition that has meaning like 100th or 150th. I am leaning toward a special edition because the cover story is about me. The creator of this magazine.  I haven't decided what I want the cover picture to be yet.
D.I.E.T? (Weight Loss)
I haven't decided if D.I.E.T is a fitting title for my cover story but,…. D.I.E.T stands for Did I Eat Today? On the Fast Metabolism Diet, Pomroy teaches you quickly that this 'diet' is not about deprivation but eating ALOT.

skinny, HEALTHY and all of the in between

One of my goals for my magazine, as mentioned in the previous article, is to change peoples perspective on what being healthy means. Societies perception on having a healthy lifestyle is false. Media praises the rail thin, teaching teenagers and even some adults that to be healthy means to not eat when hungry or go on diets. The difference between the Fast Metabolism Diet and normal diets is that on the FMD you actually eat. Like anything on the phase food list. On one of the days, I had chocolate cake!
After getting advice from classmates, I am going to write a health magazine targeted towards women. However, in the magazine there will be a section ABOUT men; not TARGETED for men. For example, an article might be about sports, or about creating drinks for a specific holiday. I understand that by targeting both sexes and of most ages is very unrealistic. I also was thinking about putting food as the cover photo. By putting food instead of a person working out, it becomes less gender specific. Even though I am targeting women, I still want to have some male readers and influence them just as much as women.

Fast Metabolism Diet

For my article, I am writing about the Fast Metabolism Diet. I understand that putting a diet in a health magazine thats goal is to promote health and beauty within ones self is controversial, but this diet doesn't only take off as much weight as you want, it transforms you into a happy and glowing you. Before I describe what I want my layout to look like and information to be, I am going to example the diet.
The Fast Metabolism Diet is a 4 week diet created by Haylie Pomroy. In her book The Fast Metabolism Diet, Pomroy makes it very clear that she makes the rules and that her 'clients' (real life clients as well as readers) follow them. There are no ifs, and or buts! Pomroy separates each week into phases. Phase 1 is 2 days, Phase 2 is 2 days and Phase 3 is three days. On each day, their are certain foods one can and cannot eat. Phase 1 is mostly carbohydrates and fruit, Phase 2 is mostly protein and vegetables, and Phase 3 is healthy fats and all of the above. With each meal, comes proportions. Again, proportions are phase specific EXCEPT vegetables. The amount of vegetables on this diet is endless, but they need to be phase specific. In addition to following the specific food list, dieters must phase specific exercises. Phase 1 is running, Phase 2 strength training and Phase 3 calming exercises. Calming exercise includes yoga, meditation, deep breathing, and a massage. As an example, below is the food groups dieters must follow for Phase 1.
Now that the diet is explained, I can describe what I am going to write about. The majority of the article is going to talk about my personal experience, what I learned completing the diet, advice about the diet and examples. I want to put pictures of Amy participating in the diet. And by participating I mean pictures of her cooking a recipe from the book and her doing phase specific workouts. I feel by having examples and visuals this will encourage the readers of my magazine to genuinely have a desire to become HEALTHY and not THIN or SKINNY. Another goal for my magazine is to promote the difference between being healthy and being thin.

Reasons Why

Today, I decided to name my magazine title Strong. I chose this name because it is inciting, and has to do with my topic, health. I also decided that my main article will be about diets.Either if they work or how to do one or tips. I think with this as my cover story I can take my article anywhere. I can write different foods and exercise for the diet. I could also write a weekly schedule on eating and exercising habits. When Mrs.Stoklosa first presented the project, I started thinking about Metabolism Diet.

I think that by putting the diet article in my health magazine, I can help bring up peoples self-esteem. The purpose of my magazine is to push people to realize that to be healthy doesn't mean to be thin but, to be physically and mentally fit. I do not want to portray this false perception of the perfect body that society uses today. While writing about a diet sounds contradictory, putting the good and evil about this certain diet in the article will allow people to change peoples perception of a perfect body.

Just the Beginning

This is a beginning of me creating my health magazine. My magazine. My creation. I want this magazine to represent the healthy lifestyle I live and I want to live. I want to to talk give relationship advise, and best foods to eat when…. I want to motivate and show that you can be healthy and fit AND still have fun. I want my magazine to correlate to my future job: either a doctor, nutritionist, or an athletic trainer on pro/college sports.
Since the day Mrs.Stoklosa asked my class whether we wanted to do a magazine or opening to a film, my heart was set on a magazine. A health magazine to be exact. I started to create my dream magazine in my head. MY magazine would have a physically fit person on the cover, a bold red masthead, and my main article would be about a diet. Recently, it had become the time to actually start working on the project. I excitedly searched the first item on my list: how to pick the perfect brand name. An article by Fast Money helped me brainstorm title names. As of a couple days ago, I had nine titles.
Whole
Whole Health
Strong
Active
Fit
Fresh
Healthful
Beneficial
Trained
Healthy Living
But, David Placek, Lexicon's founder and CEO, and my group from todays meeting (Max and Laura) helped me scratch out some titles. Scratched out Strong and Active because it sounded to much like a exercise magazine and not a mind, body, spirit magazine.  Scratched out Fit and Healthy Living because there is already a fitness magazine called Fit. And scratched out Beneficial because I believe no one would understand what the magazine was about without seeing the cover. Today, I have five titles and hopefully by tomorrow I will have chosen the perfect title.
I have started brainstorming some titles for the articles I want on the cover page and or table of contents. I have 7 subtopics: relationships, fitness, food, weight loss, beauty, style, and life.  I also thought about some topics that would be in every edition like This vs. That, Weight Loss Winner, and a motivation page. I was thinking about making the motivation page a two page spread that on one-side had inspirational quotes readers said and on the other page put pictures of the readers. For example, a Instagram picture of a girl doing warrior three (name of a yoga pose) on a mountain. I think that by adding this page it will show readers that being active is more enjoyable then being a coach potato. It allow provides audiences with examples of how to have fun while being healthy. I want this page to get encourage people to get up and start moving!
